In Luke 4:35 and 38, Jesus rebukes first the demon and second the fever. In the Greek, the same word “epitamo” is used for both entities, as well as when Jesus rebukes the wind and the waves in Mark 4:39. The point of the rebukes are to correct the situations that should not be because they are in rebellion, out of order, and bringing harm to God’s original design, and the height of his creation which was mankind. Jesus rebukes in order to restore order in each person and place with the authority He has.
For us, there are times when we should and need to rebuke that which is “out of order”.
